Evidence Based Treatment

Evidence Based Treatment

What is Evidence Based Treatment?

Evidence based practices (EBPs), also called evidence based treatments (EBTs),  are treatments designed to address a specific mental health issue, such as PTSD, depression or chronic pain, that have had their effectiveness established through multiple research studies.  EBPs involve an empirically derived treatment plan  that is tailored to the individual. Each session of treatment has an agenda and an established goal.  These treatments are time limited meaning they are designed to be completed in 5-18  sessions dependent on the treatment.

While each EBP has a standardized treatment plan and length, everyone is different! Therefore, you and your therapist will collaboratively decide when you have achieved your goals and completed treatment. Often, follow-up sessions are scheduled following the completion of treatment to provide additional support while you are gaining confidence in your skills and creating lasting change in your life. The frequency of sessions will be at least weekly. However, twice weekly sessions may be available based off your needs and therapist availability.

Some of these therapies are specifically designed for PTSD treatment and are  known as trauma-processing or trauma focused treatments. The goals of these treatments is to help the client processes the traumatic event(s) through cognitive, behavioral, or/and emotional strategies, or a combination of the three.  Trauma focused treatment involves willingly confronting trauma memories and reminders to reduce the impact of the past on your present and improve your quality of life.

Treatments Offered

We offer a variety of evidence based treatments for PTSD and related conditions. Additionally, we offer treatments focused on helping you develop coping skills for dealing with difficult emotions and developing/maintaining healthy relationships.

Not all treatments are appropriate for every person. Options that are appropriate for you will be collaboratively determined by you and your therapist.
